Jack in the box. Hamburguesas (a\u00f1o 1992).<\/strong><br \/>Uno de los casos m\u00e1s dram\u00e1ticos y famosos, 700 personas enfermas, 171 hospitalizados, 4 fallecimientos. Algunos sobrevivientes quedaron con da\u00f1os irreversibles. 73 establecimientos involucrados.<br \/>Causa: Carne contaminada con la bacteria E. coli O157:H7<br \/>Los est\u00e1ndares de la FDA en ese momento solo exig\u00edan que la carne se cocinara a 140 \u00b0F(60 \u00b0C). Este caso demostr\u00f3 que la temperatura era insuficiente. La FDA elev\u00f3 el requisito a 155 \u00b0F (y finalmente a 160 \u00b0F o 71.1 \u00b0C).<br \/>Se logr\u00f3 retirar el 20% de la carne contaminada.<br \/>La compa\u00f1\u00eda pag\u00f3 en 18 meses 160 millones de d\u00f3lares y perdi\u00f3 el 30% de su valor en el mercado burs\u00e1til. Odwalla. Jugo de manzana (a\u00f1o 1996).<\/strong><br \/>Famoso por considerarse un producto \u00absaludable\u00bb ya que el jugo de manzana se vend\u00eda sin pasteurizar.<br \/>65 personas enfermas, 1 beb\u00e9 fallecido.<br \/>Causa: jugo de manzana no pasteurizado. En una inspecci\u00f3n, la FDA encontr\u00f3 deficiencia en los procedimientos de limpieza, pr\u00e1cticas de higiene personal deficientes y aceptaci\u00f3n de manzana en malas condiciones.<br \/>El brote provoc\u00f3 que la FDA ahora requiere que se coloquen etiquetas de advertencia a todos los envases de jugo de frutas y verduras sin pasteurizar.<br \/>La empresa fue acusada penalmente, se declar\u00f3 culpable de 16 cargos penales y acord\u00f3 pagar una multa de 1.5 millones de d\u00f3lares. Hudson Beef. Carne molida (a\u00f1o 1997).<\/strong><br \/>Famoso por ser la mayor retirada de carne jam\u00e1s vista hasta ese momento. 16 personas enfermas, 5 hospitalizadas, ning\u00fan fallecimiento.<br \/>Causa: carne contaminada con la bacteria E. coli<br \/>USDA orden\u00f3 la retirada de 25 millones de libras (mas de 11 millones de kilogramos) de carne molida. Sara Lee. Productos delicatessen y salchichas (a\u00f1o 1998).<\/strong><br \/>Super\u00f3 al caso anterior en la cantidad de producto a retirar: 35 millones de libras (16 millones de kilogramos) por una bacteria menos conocida en ese momento pero m\u00e1s mortal que E. Natural Selection Foods. Espinacas frescas (a\u00f1o 2006).\nM\u00e1s de 200 personas se enfermaron, 102 fueron hospitalizadas y 5 murieron.\nCausa: contaminaci\u00f3n con la bacteria E. Coli O157:H7. Crema de cacahuate (a\u00f1o 2006).<\/strong><br \/>Funcionarios de Salud P\u00fablica detectaron aumento en aislamientos de Salmonella Tennessee, el cual se vincul\u00f3 con las marcas Peter Pan o Great Value Peanut Butter, encontr\u00e1ndose la misma cepa en tarros sin abrir y muestras ambientales recogidas en la planta. Menu food. Comida para mascotas (a\u00f1o 2007).<\/strong><br \/>Despu\u00e9s de que 14 muertes de perros y gatos fueron vinculadas a los productos Menu Foods se comenz\u00f3 a retirar alrededor de 60 millones de latas y paquetes de alimentos para mascotas. Sin embargo, no se pudo prevenir que miles de animales enfermaran y murieran.<br \/>Causa: un qu\u00edmico industrial llamado melamina contamin\u00f3 el gluten de trigo, ingrediente de estos productos. Esta sustancia al ser consumida causa insuficiencia renal y muerte. Se cree que el gluten de trigo contaminado provino de un proveedor chino.<br \/>El retiro cost\u00f3 $42 millones de d\u00f3lares, sin incluir las ventas perdidas.
